The first time I watched a small café decide whether to raise its prices, I realised that business is really the study of human choices under pressure. Every decision balanced cost, loyalty and risk.
That fascination with how organisations make and act on decisions is what draws me to Business Management.
My A-level studies have given me a strong foundation for this. Studying Economics taught me to think about incentives, markets and the trade-offs behind every policy. Mathematics sharpened my ability to model problems and interpret data with precision.
Meanwhile, English developed the clarity and structure I need to argue a position and communicate it persuasively.
Reading widely has deepened this interest beyond the syllabus. Working through titles on behavioural economics showed me why people rarely act as rational agents, while articles on operations management revealed how firms compete on efficiency.
I began to notice these ideas everywhere, from supply-chain delays in the news to the pricing strategies of brands I use daily.
A part-time retail role has been my most valuable classroom. Serving customers during busy periods taught me how service quality shapes a brand’s reputation far more than advertising does.
I observed how stock decisions, staff scheduling and team morale directly affected daily takings, and I learned to stay composed when several demands competed at once.
Volunteering at a local care home stretched me differently. Helping to organise activities meant coordinating people with very different needs and expectations. I learned that management is not simply about efficiency but about motivating others and earning their trust, a lesson no textbook could have taught me quite so vividly.
A group enterprise project during my studies let me test these ideas directly. Tasked with launching a mock product, our team had to research demand, set a budget and pitch to a panel.
I took responsibility for the financial forecast, and negotiating compromises within the group taught me as much as the numbers did.
Beyond academic work, I captain a sports team, which has taught me that leadership is mostly about listening. Balancing training, part-time work and studies has also forced me to organise my time ruthlessly and to recognise when to delegate rather than shoulder everything myself.
I am drawn to this course because it combines rigorous theory with practical application, and the opportunity to study strategy, finance and organisational behaviour together excites me.
The prospect of a placement year, applying classroom ideas within a real organisation, is especially appealing as I consider a future in management consultancy.
Ultimately, I want to understand not just how successful organisations operate, but why some thrive while others fail. University is the environment where I can test that curiosity rigorously, and I am ready to commit myself fully to the challenge.

Personal Statement Writing Service
Need help writing your business management personal statement?
Our advisers help you craft an original, authentic statement that reflects your own experience — structured, proofread and tailored to your chosen course.
It opens with a specific, observed moment rather than a cliché about “always loving business”. That concrete image signals genuine curiosity and gives the reader something memorable, immediately linking a real observation to the academic subject being applied for.
Throughout, the writer reflects rather than lists. Each experience, from retail work to volunteering, is followed by what it taught them, showing self-awareness and maturity. Admissions tutors value this analytical habit far more than a catalogue of activities without insight.
Finally, every example is tied back to Business Management and the specific course features, such as the placement year and modules in strategy and finance. This demonstrates that the applicant has researched the programme and understands why it suits their ambitions.
